FT-IR OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Check to make sure the correct sample compartment is installed. The liquid sample has a deeper well around the crystal.
Make sure the sample compartment is clean and dry of residual solvent
Click "BKG" to take a background. Wait for the background to complete.
Place sample in sample compartment.
Make sure you are in the “Measure” tab at the top of the graph.
Click on the "..." button next to the “Data file” field.
Select the folder named for the current semester (i.e. “Spring 2001”)
Select the folder named for the experiment (i.e. “Oil of Wintergreen”)
Enter the file name to be saved (i.e. “John-crudesample”) and click Save.
Click the “Sample” button.
After scan is complete and you are in the “View” window.
Click on the “File” menu and click on the “Print with Form” option.
Select form “spectrum_l.ptm"
Remove your sample from the instrument compartment with a cotton ball and then clean all surfaces on the instrument that came into contact with your sample with a cotton ball with methanol on it.
Make sure the is NO RESIDUE left on any part of the instrument.
